The Nike Genie Slippers distort the familiar language of athletic footwear into something absurd, nostalgic, and slightly cartoonish.
By extending the sneaker silhouette into exaggerated curled toes, the work merges contemporary sportswear with the visual mythology of storybook genie shoes, costume design, and fantasy caricature. The result feels simultaneously luxurious, comedic, and uncanny — transforming an everyday cultural object into surreal fashion sculpture.
Originally conceived with the spirit of an April Fools intervention, the piece evolved into a commentary on the increasingly theatrical nature of sneaker culture itself, where footwear operates less as utility and more as identity performance, collectible artifact, and spectacle.
